Great Location but noisy
Apr 29, 2008
We got married and honeymooned on the north shore of Kauai and stayed at Hale kai Kalani for 9 nights. The owners are wonderful, flexible and very easy to work with. We enjoyed the home location very much and it has fantastic bluff views of the valley and ocean in the distance. It is a short drive down a dirt road to Rock Quarry beach which, after visiting many more Kauai beaches, was one of our favorites. The location of the home worked out well for us as we spent most of our time north in Hanalei or south in Kapa'a.
Unfortunately, our stay was not as tranquil as we had expected. The house sits about 20 feet from a rural, dirt road that leads to a botanical gardens and other homes. Cars tended to drive very fast on this road and it is very noisy. On the other side of the house, is the upper part of the road to the beach which is VERY noisy when cars are driving on due to the very steep grade and the fact that it is dirt and rock and people would always spin-out when climbing it. One night, the beach was apparently the local teen party spot and we laid in bed while 50 or more cars with people yelling, bass thumping and tires spinning descended to the beach and then a repeat at about 2 am when they all left again. That was a fun night....
All in all, we really liked the house, the owners, our stay there, and the north shore of Kauai but we would probably opt to stay somewhere else due to the noise.
